First
and foremost The Guild would like to thank everyone who
attended and who participated. The support we got from the Anthropology
society, Dr. Ivan Callus and the band members of Cyberia
was truly exeptional.
This
kind of event is a rare occurence in Malta and it turned out
to be unlike any Art night I have ever attended - and that's
an understatement!
Held
at the National Youth Council at the Planning Authority, the
main hall was transformed into an ambiance fitting the theme.
Banners & paintings by Ian Christie, a few, but simple
SFX, dark ambient music and a good fifty people in attendance. Members
of The Guild, the Anthropology Society and a special guest speaker
- Dr Ivan Callus were present, as well as the band members of
Cyberia and their friends; the hall was already full of people
at the opening of the night.
The night started off with an introduction from Gordon Calleja,
The Guild's president. Short but to the point, Gordon spoke
about what The Guild is trying to achieve in these art nights
- To stimulate the mind and motivate the individual to be more
creative. With events like these, one can express his or her
feelings through art in the form of literature. This he said,
is the basis of The Guild.
Following
Gordon, Dr. Ivan Callus spoke in depth about Cyber Literature.
Gordon then spoke about Cyberpunk, the roleplaying game of the
dark future and how roleplaying works.
Cyberia, with their new line-up : Noel Cuschieri - lead singer,
Andrew Christie and Erica Mamo on guitars, Pannol on bass, and
Antoine Vella on synths and drum machine, kicked off for their
first performance with "Elle". It really felt like
we were in a futuristic place listening to some cyber band playing.
Unfortunately, to the demise of everyone present, their
second song - Tree Trips was cut short by an incident which
had to stop the entire art night. What promised to be a successful
night of poetry and story reading, presentations of Ian Christie's
paintings, and a demostration of the Cyberpunk roleplaying game,
turned out to be the last Guild event at these premises.
The support, however, that we received from the participants
served to strengthen our resolve to continue these events as
we had planned. If this is not to happen at the National Youth
Council, the supposed core of youths in Malta, then so be it.
Please visit this page regularly as we are still giving our
best to organise roleplaying games, tournaments, art nights
and to set up a place where people can get together and create.
